Tips of the Season
Winter
- If you have a backlog of papers sitting around on counter tops or in bags set your timer for 15 minutes and sort and purge. You will not finish but if you will make a dent. Repeat as necessary.
- New appliances and gadgets? Set up a file box for all warranties and instructions. Also, if there are cords or chargers put them in ziplock bags so they won’t tangle and label the cord and the bag.
- Once your credit card statement comes in and you check your receipts against it, you can toss out the receipts unless you need them for tax purposes or it was an expensive item. If it is an expensive item with a warranty or instruction book – staple the receipt on this filed form.
Saving Time
- Whenever you file papers, file for retrieval. Don’t label folder what you think it “should” be but ask yourself, “Where would I look for this?” and use that label.
- When new catalogs or magazines come into your house – toss out the old one. You haven’t read it yet? Lay it out for 1 week and then toss.
