Clutter anywhere can make you anxious and increase your stress levels. You sure don’t want this happening in your bedroom. Your bedroom is supposed to provide you with a quiet space for sleeping and relaxation. A well-rested body benefits your immune function and mental health and even helps with weight loss.
· Reducing the clutter will reduce your stress
Chronic stress is linked to health conditions. Stress can lead to headaches, upset stomach problems, high blood pressure, possible strokes, and weight gain.
· Reducing the clutter will improve your quality of sleep
During sleep your body rejuvenates. Sleep not only restores your body but also improves your mental health.
· Reducing clutter can improve your respiratory problems
Clutter can accumulate dust and allergens. The less stuff you keep laying out the less stuff to keep clean and dusted. Clutter can also block vents and hinder air circulation in your bedroom.
· Reducing clutter can reduce slip and fall accidents
The leading cause of home injury death in the country are slip and fall accidents. A clutter filled bedroom with items scattered about is even worse when the room is darkened for sleep.
· Reducing clutter can improve your mental health
Studies show there is a connection between clutter and mental health conditions. This includes depression and anxiety. Too much clutter can make a person feel helpless and overwhelmed.
Clutter can accumulate slowly. Then we start to notice our frustration when we try to get ourselves ready for a new day. We can’t find what we want to put together for an outfit. We can’t find that other shoe. We stub our little toe on a box left on the floor. We’re tired. We just want to go back to bed and cover up our head.
And then at night when we retreat to our bedroom, everywhere we look we see projects that need to be done. The laundry needs to be put away. The Amazon box needs to be unboxed, and the items put away. Reading material is overflowing on the nightstand by our bed. Dirty dishes are attracting roaches. How can we get a good night’s sleep in this mess?
Now, let’s envision a clutter-free bedroom. When we prepare to go to bed at night the bed is spread up and ready for us. Our outfit for the next day is ready. Everything is clean and inviting.
We wake up in a clean and organized bedroom and can start our day with a clear mind and a feeling of control.
Schedule time now to declutter and organize your bedroom. Once you have your bedroom matching your vision maintain it by having a daily reset routine. Put away clothes daily. Make your bed. Weekly give it a good clean.
Enjoy all the health benefits of decluttering your bedroom.
